The Health support program is one of ZAPD rehabilitation programs that seeks to promote and improve the social wellbeing of PWDs in society which includes access to health services and facilities. It is specifically aimed at alleviating the health related problems of the poorest and most vulnerable PWDs who lack self-help capacity and do not have access to external support. It therefore supplements and mitigates the cost that would be associated with seeking health services from public institutions such as laboratory examinations, radiological investigations, surgical procedures and meeting the cost of prescribed medicines which may not be available in the health institutions
According to our Zambia National Policy on Disability (NDP), PWDs is defined as persons with long term physical, intellectual, mental or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
These guidelines will therefore, explain how the health support will work and how it will benefit different PWDs.
